This year's European Week for Safety and Health at Work, held from 19 to 23 October 2020, is raising awareness about the recently launched Campaign 2020-22 Healthy Workplaces Lighten the Load, which focuses on preventing work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

In the light of COVID-19, many of the events and conferences organised by our network of national focal points, official campaign partners, media partners and OSH ambassadors from the Enterprise Europe Network to mark the European Week are held online. The events encourage participative and active involvement in addressing MSDs as a major cause for concern for workers and businesses across Europe.

Remarkable examples include a seminar organised by the Slovenian focal point to highlight the scope and impact of MSDs preventive measures, and a session to hear about the current state of play of work-related MSDs in Lithuania held by the Lithuanian focal point. The Swedish focal point also organises an online seminar to introduce the campaign and to reveal the findings of the Swedish Agency for Work Environment Expertise’s own research on MSDs.

EU-OSHA’s online EU MSDs Conference takes place on 22 October to present key findings and evidence from MSDs prevalence, prevention and policy research carried out by EU-OSHA and external experts. The webinar also looks into the fields of ‘Chronic MSDs’, ‘Psychosocial risks and MSDs’, ‘MSDs Prevention in the Agriculture and Health Care Sectors’, and ‘MSDs and Gender.’
